Sonidos Líquidos festival cancelled due to high winds in Lanzarote

Festival cancelled amid dangerous winds in La Geria

The organisers of the Sonidos Líquidos festival have announced its cancellation this Saturday, citing the strong gusts of wind affecting La Geria in Lanzarote, where speeds have exceeded 75 kilometres per hour. The event had been scheduled to take place today.

First cancellation in 16 editions

In a statement, the organisers said that forecasts for later in the day indicate even stronger gusts as the hours progress, forcing them to take the difficult decision to suspend the festival for the first time in its 16-year history. “After carefully assessing the situation and in coordination with the relevant security authorities on the island, we have been forced to make the hardest decision in our 16 editions,” the organisers lamented.

Safety of attendees and artists prioritised

The organisers emphasised that the decision was taken to protect not only the festivalgoers but also the performing artists, technical staff, and all other crew members. They also confirmed that in the coming days, ticket holders will be informed about how refunds for tickets and bus passes will be processed.
