Mesa y López becomes open-air gallery for 30th edition
From early this morning, Mesa y López avenue in the Gran Canarian capital was transformed into a vast open-air gallery, as more than 300 registered participants took part in the 30th edition of the Rapid Painting Contest. Artists aged from just three to 73 years old unleashed their creativity across hundreds of styles and themes, turning the city into a living canvas.
With a strict time limit in place, this year’s competition marked its thirtieth birthday in the best possible way: with live art that captured the very soul of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Professionals, amateurs, students and young artists alike were at the heart of this special anniversary edition, which boasted a total prize fund of €18,000.
Outdoor exhibition and jury deliberation
From 3pm, all the works were displayed outdoors throughout the afternoon, creating a huge living art museum in the heart of the Gran Canarian capital. Participants and visitors alike waited eagerly for the verdict of the jury, which was not announced until 6pm. This year’s panel was made up of distinguished professionals from the fields of visual arts, contemporary creation and cultural management.
