Thursday starts unsettled in the western Canary Islands, with locally heavy and thundery showers possible, before conditions gradually calm down.
What to expect across the Islands
Instability will ease through the day in the east of the archipelago, but showers will linger over the more mountainous islands. Downpours could turn locally heavy and thundery on El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera, and to a lesser extent on Tenerife, particularly in the mid-altitudes and at higher ground.
Elsewhere, scattered clouds will dominate, with light calima drifting over Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Temperatures will edge up slightly, with pleasant daytime highs of 22–26ºC along the coasts.
Winds will be light to moderate from the east to north-east along the coast, turning light southerly on the peaks and stronger from the south-west on Mount Teide.
At sea, expect slightly choppy conditions along much of the coastline, rough ocean out in the open Atlantic, and an ocean swell from the north of 1–1.5 metres.
Tenerife
Heavy, thundery showers overnight in the east and north-east, with local clouds building inland and further showers possible in the interior. The instability eases as the afternoon wears on. Temperatures rise slightly, and the trade winds return later in the day.
Gran Canaria
Scattered clouds with the odd shower inland around midday. Daytime temperatures climb gently, reaching 22–26ºC on the coast, with light to moderate north-east winds.
Lanzarote
After overnight rain, expect variable cloud cover. Light calima will settle in, temperatures will tend to rise, and the north-east wind will pick up through the afternoon.
Fuerteventura
Residual rain early in the morning gives way to sunshine and high cloud in the afternoon, with light calima in the mix. Temperatures rise slightly and the trade winds arrive by the afternoon.
La Palma
Moderate to heavy rain, locally very heavy in the east where it may persist, along with occasional thunderstorms. Temperatures hold steady with no major changes.
La Gomera
Lots of cloud and probable showers, locally heavy and thundery in the mid-altitudes and at the summit, easing towards the end of the day. Very little wind.
El Hierro
Cloudy skies with probable showers, which could turn locally heavy and thundery. Temperatures unchanged, with a light east to north-east wind.
La Graciosa
A touch of light rain early in the morning, then a mix of cloud and sunshine. A high of 25ºC in Caleta del Sebo, with light to moderate north-east winds.
