Sunday brings a dusty sky over much of the Canary Islands as calima settles in the heights, while temperatures climb and the alisio picks up strength on exposed coasts.
General outlook
Scattered mid and high cloud will drift across the Islands. Northern slopes of the mountainous islands will start the day under low cloud, clearing as the morning wears on.
Saharan dust will be present in the upper air, most noticeable across midlands and summits on south-facing slopes.
Temperatures are on the rise, with daytime highs climbing most in southern and western areas and particularly in the midlands. Parts of southern and south-western La Gomera, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, along with western Fuerteventura, could reach or exceed 30°C.
The alisio will blow moderately, strengthening in the south-east and north-west of the mountainous islands, where occasional very strong gusts are likely during the morning. Over midlands and summits the wind will turn south-easterly to southerly, while Tenerife’s highest peaks see a moderate south-westerly.
At sea, combined ocean swell from the north-east will bring waves over 2 metres to north-facing coasts and the western shores of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Southern coasts will see rough ocean conditions in places.
