The trade winds are back over the Canary Islands this Friday, bringing a calmer day after recent unsettled weather. Low cloud will linger in northern and north-eastern areas, with a little weak rain still possible on La Palma, but sunshine will dominate elsewhere.
Cool mornings, warmer afternoons
Temperatures climb slightly across the Islands, with daytime highs of 23–27ºC along the coasts. Winds will blow from the north-east, light to moderate near the coast and picking up through the afternoon, while the summits see a light south-easterly to easterly breeze.
At sea, expect a calm to slightly choppy Ocean close to shore, with rough conditions further out and an ocean swell from the north-west of 1–2 metres.
Tenerife
Plenty of low cloud over the north and north-east, with the odd drop possible in the mid-altitude areas. The south and west coasts will see the best of the sunshine. Temperatures edge up slightly, and the trade wind along the coast will turn light south-easterly to easterly over the summits.
Gran Canaria
The familiar “panza de burro” – a thick bank of low cloud – will sit over the north and the capital, with a stray drop possible inland. Elsewhere it will be sunny with the occasional patch of mid-level cloud. Temperatures rise gently to 24–27ºC on the coast, with a moderate trade wind.
Lanzarote
A few low clouds at dawn over the north and east, then variable mid-level cloud through the rest of the day. Sunny spells, pleasant temperatures and a moderate trade wind.
Fuerteventura
Mostly clear skies across the island. Temperatures rise by a degree or so, and the north-easterly wind will strengthen through the afternoon.
La Palma
Cloudy skies with some weak rain in the eastern mid-altitudes. Sunshine returns elsewhere, temperatures rise slightly and the trade wind will pick up through the afternoon.
La Gomera
Low cloud over parts of the north and the summit, with sunny, pleasant weather elsewhere. Coastal highs of 23–27ºC.
El Hierro
Low cloud over the north and north-east, sunny spells elsewhere. Temperatures climb slightly, and the north-easterly wind will be moderate on the coast, strengthening later in the day.
La Graciosa
Variable cloud cover, thicker at dawn. Caleta de Sebo will see highs of 24–25ºC, with a light to moderate trade wind.
