End of the calm: Fourth summer heatwave on its way
The brief respite is over. Barely a few hours of weather forecasts in the Canary Islands without yellow warnings on the horizon have passed. This Monday, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reactivated alerts for the archipelago, specifically for Gran Canaria, due to high temperatures. With the arrival of the fourth summer heatwave, which will particularly affect the mainland, the islands will also see temperatures rise, although for now the warning only applies to Gran Canaria.
Yellow warning: When and where
The alert will come into force at 11:00 on Wednesday and will initially last until 20:00 the same day, although extensions to other islands are not ruled out. The warning covers the island’s summits and the eastern, southern and western slopes, where maximum temperatures of 35°C are expected. The areas most affected include the Tejeda basin and the mid-altitude areas of the south and west.
