Dangerous driving on GC-1 sparks social media outrage

Footage of dangerous driving goes viral

A new incident concerning road safety in the Canary Islands has prompted a wave of reactions on social media over the past few hours. A driver was filmed driving dangerously on the GC-1 motorway, near Gran Canaria Airport, making repeated zigzag movements between lanes and putting other road users at risk.

The images, captured by a witness who observed the events from another vehicle, have been rapidly shared across various social media platforms and instant messaging apps, where thousands of users have expressed their concern over what happened.

Incident on the island’s busiest road

The scene took place on the GC-1, one of the busiest roads in Gran Canaria and the main link between the island’s capital, the tourist resorts in the south, and the airport. In the video, the vehicle can be seen driving erratically, swerving sharply from one side of the lane to the other and partially encroaching into other traffic lanes. This behaviour forced other drivers to take extra care to avoid a potential collision.

Although the situation created moments of tension for those travelling in the area, no serious accident was reported as a direct result of the incident.

Public debate reignited

As is increasingly common, a driver in the vicinity decided to record the sequence on their mobile phone. The images were then shared en masse on social media and messaging groups, where they quickly went viral. The spread of the video has reopened the debate about irresponsible behaviour behind the wheel and the need to report such situations when they may compromise public safety.
