New night-time traffic restrictions for Las Verónicas
Arona Council has announced the introduction of new traffic signage on the road parallel to Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina, in the Las Verónicas area, prohibiting vehicle circulation and parking during night-time hours. The restriction will apply daily from 10pm to 8am the following morning, with exemptions only for emergency vehicles and other duly authorised services.
Improving safety and cleaning operations
The measure has been implemented to improve road and pedestrian safety in the area, and to allow cleaning work to be carried out under better conditions during the night and early morning. This is a period when activity in the zone is at its most operationally complex.
The Mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes Reverón, highlighted that “organising public space in Las Verónicas is a management and safety decision: it reduces interference at critical moments, facilitates emergency intervention and allows municipal services to operate with proper guarantees.” Lemes added that “this regulation pursues a clear objective: ensuring that one of the busiest night-time areas in the municipality functions with greater control, better cleanliness and more safety for residents, workers and visitors.”
Police monitoring and operational needs
The Local Police have been monitoring traffic conditions and the use of this road, identifying the need for specific regulations to help organise the environment and optimise the functioning of public services in one of the municipality’s busiest areas. Councillor for the Local Police, Héctor Reyes, noted that “this action responds to the need to organise a particularly sensitive space during night-time hours and to improve the capacity for intervention in an area with a high footfall.” Reyes added that “the new regulation will allow us to reinforce safety, facilitate more effective and coordinated action by police forces, and contribute to better management of the environment during the hours of greatest operational complexity.”
Public services and cleanliness priorities
Meanwhile, the First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Public Services, Clari Pérez, stressed that “this measure will allow cleaning services to carry out their work with greater guarantees, more safety and greater efficiency in a high-traffic area like Las Verónicas.” Pérez added that “continuing to improve the cleanliness and condition of public spaces is a priority, and decisions like this allow us to progress towards a more orderly environment in better conditions.”
