Tenerife expands global reach with new flight routes for 2026
Tenerife’s air connectivity is gaining significant momentum in 2026, with the addition of new international routes and the strengthening of established links. Airlines including Air Canada, airBaltic, Air Serbia, TAP Air Portugal, Air France, Binter Canarias, Iberia Express, and Vueling have announced new services or increased frequencies, reinforcing the island’s role in both domestic and international tourism markets. This development is particularly important for an island destination like Tenerife, where air travel is an essential infrastructure for the movement of residents and visitors, as well as for economic activity. Improved connections benefit not only tourism but also the island’s ability to attract conferences, events, business travel, and family or professional visits.
The Vice-President and Minister of Tourism for the Cabildo of Tenerife, Lope Afonso, believes the increase in routes and frequencies is excellent news for the island’s tourism competitiveness, also expanding opportunities linked to economic development and employment.
Air Canada launches direct flights from Toronto and Montreal
One of the main developments arrives in October when Air Canada introduces direct flights from Toronto and Montreal to Tenerife. The Canadian airline has announced new connections for the 2026-2027 winter season, including non-stop services between North America and Tenerife as part of its expansion of holiday destinations. According to the information provided, the Toronto route will operate with two weekly frequencies, while the Montreal connection will have one weekly flight. This operation represents a step forward in Tenerife’s strategy to position itself in the North American market, a segment considered of interest for its ability to diversify tourism demand.
The CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, highlights that improving air connectivity is a strategic pillar for strengthening the destination’s international presence. In her view, opening new routes and increasing frequencies allows for a greater flow of visitors from priority markets, moving towards a more balanced tourism model throughout the year.
AirBaltic bases in Tenerife with new European connections
Another significant development is the opening of a seasonal base by airBaltic at Tenerife South Airport for the 2026-2027 winter season. The Baltic carrier will operate new European connections from the island, with routes to Ljubljana in Slovenia, Liège in Belgium, Palanga in Lithuania, and Groningen in the Netherlands. The planned schedule provides for two weekly frequencies to Ljubljana and Liège, and one weekly frequency to Palanga and Groningen. The published information on airBaltic’s network expansion for winter 2026-2027 includes new routes from Tenerife South to Liège, Ljubljana, and Palanga, operated with Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
Air Serbia links Belgrade with Tenerife
The island will also strengthen its connection with Eastern Europe through Air Serbia, which will link Belgrade with Tenerife. The route is scheduled between autumn and winter, with two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays, according to the programme outlined in the press release. The airline already has a commercial page for the Belgrade-Tenerife connection. These types of links allow Tenerife to gain a presence in markets that can help diversify the origin of visitors and reduce reliance on traditional source markets.
Increased frequencies from France, Portugal, and Spain
The growth in connectivity is not limited to new routes. Air France will increase its summer operations from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport to Tenerife South, while TAP Air Portugal will strengthen its schedule from Lisbon with up to four weekly flights. On the domestic front, Binter Canarias continues to expand its network with new frequencies from cities including Vigo, Valencia, and Asturias. It will also extend winter routes to Valladolid, San Sebastián, Granada, Pamplona, and Murcia, and introduce new connections with Seville and Badajoz. Meanwhile, Iberia Express will increase its summer 2026 operations to 74 weekly flights each way between Madrid and Tenerife, with up to 11 daily frequencies and connections to both Tenerife North and Tenerife South. Vueling will also boost its capacity during the summer season, with a 7% increase and reinforcement from Oviedo and Valencia.
