Medical emergency forces diversion
A Vueling aircraft operating the route between Cape Verde and Barcelona was forced to make an emergency landing at Gran Canaria Airport on Saturday night after a passenger suffered a medical emergency, according to reports from air traffic controllers on X.
The crew of flight VY7699, which had been airborne for around an hour, was flying from the city of Espargos on Sal Island to the Catalan capital when they requested priority to divert from their flight plan while overflying the Canary Islands, with the aim of touching down at Gando.
The reason for the diversion was to provide urgent medical attention to a passenger. In response to the situation, the control tower facilitated the aircraft’s descent while also coordinating medical assistance at the Gran Canaria airport.
