New express route across Tenerife
The north and south of Tenerife are now a little closer from this Monday. Titsa’s new line 464 has begun operating between Icod de los Vinos station and Costa Adeje station, a connection designed to offer a more direct alternative for those who need to cross the island by public transport.
The new bus started running on 7 September, complementing the service already provided by line 460 with around 500 additional seats per day on the connection between the two ends of the island. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes along the TF-82 as far as Santiago del Teide, before continuing along the TF-1 motorway to Costa Adeje station.
Faster route via the motorway
The key difference lies in the route taken. The 464 leaves Icod de los Vinos and travels along the TF-82 to Santiago del Teide. There it switches roads and joins the TF-1 directly to head towards Costa Adeje, without following the longer itinerary of line 460, which passes through Tamaimo, Chío, Guía de Isora and other points before reaching Costa Adeje station.
The result is a journey of approximately one hour and 15 minutes between one end and the other. The new line runs every day of the week. Departures from Icod de los Vinos station are scheduled at 05:25, 07:15, 09:20, 11:10, 14:00, 15:50, 17:55 and 19:45. Passengers can expect the bus to pass through Santiago del Teide at 06:00, 07:50, 09:55, 11:45, 14:35, 16:25, 18:30 and 20:20 respectively.
In the opposite direction, services from Santiago del Teide towards Icod depart at 07:00, 08:45, 11:00, 12:40, 15:35, 17:20, 19:35 and 21:15. The estimated travel time between the two stations is one hour and 15 minutes, one of the main selling points of the new line, which cuts 25 minutes off the journey compared with the current 460.
Streamlining connections between north and south
The older service maintains a route of approximately one hour and 40 minutes between Icod and Costa Adeje. From Icod, that line passes through El Tanque and Santiago del Teide, before continuing towards Tamaimo, Chío, Guía de Isora and Torviscas before reaching its final destination at Costa Adeje. The principal difference compared with line 460 comes precisely at Santiago del Teide: while the 460 continues inland, the 464 avoids this detour and joins the motorway directly heading south.
The new route will reduce deviations and speed up journeys between the north and south of Tenerife. There will be fewer stops and greater use of the motorway, with the aim of shortening the distance travelled and cutting journey times. Beyond the miles saved, the introduction of this line responds to a mobility need between two parts of Tenerife with very different economic and employment realities.
Icod de los Vinos and Costa Adeje sit at opposite ends of the island, and for those who make this trip on a regular basis, the time spent travelling can take up a significant chunk of the working day. The service will run roughly every two hours for much of the day and will operate seven days a week, strengthening the public transport connection between the two areas.
