Tenerife boosts 2026 connectivity with new air routes

New routes and increased frequencies for Tenerife in 2026

Tenerife’s air connectivity is set to receive a major boost in 2026, with the launch of new routes and the reinforcement of existing connections. The new additions, announced by the Cabildo (island council), aim to strengthen the island’s position in both national and international markets. Airlines including Air Canada, airBaltic, Iberia Express, Air Serbia, TAP Air Portugal, Binter Canarias, and Air France are among those expanding their operations.

A vote of confidence from the aviation sector

Lope Afonso, Vice-President and Councillor for Tourism, hailed the growth in air connectivity as “excellent news” for the island, stressing that it boosts tourism competitiveness and creates opportunities for economic development and employment. “The introduction of new routes and the increase in frequencies by international and domestic airlines demonstrates the aviation sector’s confidence in Tenerife as a solid, attractive destination with the capacity to continue growing in an orderly and sustainable manner,” he said in a statement.

Air Canada to launch services from Toronto and Montreal

Among the key developments, Air Canada will launch new routes from Toronto and Montreal in October, with two weekly flights from Toronto and one from Montreal. This marks a “significant” step forward in Tenerife’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the North American market.

airBaltic opens winter base at Tenerife South Airport

airBaltic is set to open a seasonal base at Tenerife South Airport during the 2026-2027 winter season. From there, it will operate new connections to Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Liège (Belgium), each with two weekly frequencies, as well as to Palanga (Lithuania) and Groningen (Netherlands), with one weekly flight each.

Air Serbia connects Belgrade, and Air France and TAP increase capacity

Air Serbia will connect Belgrade with Tenerife between October and February, operating two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays, expanding the island’s reach into the Eastern European market. Meanwhile, Air France will increase its operations during the summer season from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Tenerife South, and TAP Air Portugal will reinforce its schedule with four weekly flights from Lisbon.

Binter and Iberia Express expand domestic networks

On the domestic front, Binter Canarias continues to expand its network with new frequencies from cities including Vigo, Valencia, and Asturias. It is also extending winter-season routes to Valladolid, San Sebastian, Granada, Pamplona, and Murcia, and adding new connections to Seville and Badajoz.

Iberia Express, meanwhile, will increase its operations in the summer of 2026 to reach 74 weekly flights per direction between Madrid and Tenerife, equating to up to 11 daily frequencies connecting with both Tenerife North and Tenerife South airports.

Vueling boosts summer capacity

Vueling will also increase its capacity by 7% during the summer season, with reinforcements on services from Oviedo and Valencia.
