A stadium setting with Latin American flavours
Some restaurants surprise not only with their culinary offering but also with their location. In Arona, Cantina El Marino occupies a spot inside the Antonio Domínguez Alfonso Stadium, serving a menu that blends the flavours of the Canary Islands, Colombia and Venezuela.
Food content creators @guachinchesmodernos recently visited and shared their experience with followers, highlighting the establishment’s strong reviews. “The menu is extensive, combining Canarian, Colombian and Venezuelan dishes! Portions are generous and the prices are even better,” they said.
Starters that impress
The team began by whetting their appetites with homemade tequeños served with red berry jam and aioli. “I’m in love with the presentation of these tequeños,” commented Jonay in the video. They also sampled the empanadas, stuffed with smashed potatoes.
The arepas were among the dishes that stood out most during the visit, and for good reason – they are one of the house specialities. Cooked on the griddle, they come with a variety of fillings. The trio of criollo patacones was also on the table, accompanied by criollo chicken, oven-roasted pork and shredded beef.
Hearty mains and sweet endings
To round off the meal, the group ordered the traditional bandeja paisa, described as one of Colombia’s most iconic dishes, comprising white rice, red beans, shredded beef, chicharrón, fried egg, ripe plantain, avocado, arepa and artisan chorizo. The stewed tongue was another highlight, slow-cooked in criollo sauce and served with potato, cassava, rice and salad.
For dessert, the restaurant offers a selection of homemade treats, and the visitors sampled the coulant and the cheesecake. “Delicious,” they affirmed.
Weekday lunch menu and opening hours
One of the main draws is the daily lunch menu from Monday to Friday at €10.50, an option that attracts numerous local workers. The menu includes a choice of first and second course, allowing each diner to pick whichever dishes appeal most.
Cantina El Marino is located inside the Antonio Domínguez Alfonso Stadium, at Avenida Gómez Cuesta, 18, in Arona. It currently holds 4.9 stars on Google, a rating that reflects the satisfaction of those who have visited and enjoyed the homemade dishes on offer. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, while at weekends hours are reduced to 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
