Calima and Heatwave to Grip Tenerife This Weekend

Weekend Heat and Dust to Ease from Monday

The calima and high temperatures set to stifle the island of Tenerife throughout the weekend will begin to subside from Monday. The forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) places the peak of this hot spell between the weekend and the start of Monday, with temperatures more typical of June than April.

Peak Temperatures and Saharan Dust

To the high temperatures, which could exceed 32 degrees Celsius in different parts of the Canaries, must be added the presence of suspended dust. From Monday, the agency expects a clear drop in temperatures on Tenerife, although in some areas they will remain high for the time of year, such as in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Normal Conditions to Return Next Week

Although some uncertainty remains about the evolution of temperatures, the island will experience a “normalisation of temperatures” during the first days of next week, with more pleasant thermal sensations. For this weekend, thicker clouds are expected, along with a small chance of weaker rain in central areas of the island in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday.

Detailed Weekend Forecast

The trace of calima will still be notable on Saturday but will leave the Archipelago by Sunday. Temperatures are expected to hover around 30°C, potentially reaching 34°C with notable wind gusts, especially in the south of the island where stronger gusts are forecast, though these will ease as the weekend progresses.

Clearer Skies and Cooling Winds

During the start of next week, the calima will begin to dissipate, leaving partially clear skies in different areas of Tenerife. A drop in temperatures will be felt, particularly in the north of the island, thanks to wind gusts that will vary notably in areas of higher relief.
