A shark was spotted off the coast of Tenerife on Saturday by several people who were preparing to take part in a freediving competition. The sighting occurred off the shore of Radazul, in the municipality of El Rosario.
Moment captured on video
“A little shark in Radazul came to bring us good luck at the Canary Islands freediving competition,” wrote TikTok user Alma Rohen, alongside a video showing her running towards the sea to catch a glimpse of it. The clip also includes footage captured by diver and freediver Gastón Anfibio (@gastonanfibio), who filmed the shark’s fin near the pier.
In his video, Gastón clarifies that the sighting took place just before the competition held in the area this Saturday — the 2026 Canary Islands Outdoor Freediving Championship. The unexpected visitor caused quite a stir among participants, prompting more than a few jokes: “Today we either win the competition or lose a leg,” can be heard in the background of the video, which is set to the tune of the children’s song ‘Baby Shark’. Another person chimes in: “Mate, it’s patrolling around out there.”
In the video posted by Alma, some freedivers can also be seen swimming in the same waters as the shark without realising it. “Those freedivers don’t know they’re swimming right next to a shark — it’s over there,” the young woman points out.
