Child airlifted after hotel pool rescue in Arguineguin
A five-year-old girl was airlifted to the Hospital Universitario Materno Infantil this Wednesday after being rescued from a hotel pool in Arguineguin, in the municipality of Mogán.
Emergency response
The incident occurred at 6:10 pm, when the Canary Islands Government’s Coordinating Centre for Emergencies and Security (CECOES 112) received an alert that the child had been pulled from the water showing symptoms of drowning. At that initial stage, the hotel’s lifeguard was already providing assistance.
Multi-agency operation
Emergency services were immediately activated, with the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) dispatching a medicalised ambulance, a basic life support ambulance, and a medicalised helicopter. Personnel from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, Local Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, and port authority staff also attended the scene.
Medical evacuation
SUC medical staff assessed the child, who was presenting moderate drowning symptoms. After receiving initial treatment, she was transferred by medicalised ambulance to the Arguineguin dock, where the medicalised helicopter was waiting to evacuate her to hospital.
Coordination on the ground
Police resources worked alongside the other emergency services and took charge of the relevant procedures. Staff from Puertos Canarios, firefighters, and Civil Protection secured the landing and take-off manoeuvres of the aircraft in the area.
