Thursday: warming up with calima haze

The Canary Islands are in for a warmer and brighter Thursday, with temperatures inching up across the board. Some low clouds will linger in northern areas during the early and late hours, especially around 700 metres altitude, but they’ll break up as the day goes on. A light calima haze will hang in the air, softening the horizon, while winds ease off compared to recent days.

General conditions

Mercury could climb to 30°C in parts of southern Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. Winds are easing overall, though Tenerife’s exposed areas and the metropolitan zone may still see a few stronger gusts overnight. The Atlantic will remain rough on north-facing coasts, with waves around 2 metres high, particularly in channels between islands.

Island by island

Tenerife
The day starts with grey skies in the north and some cloud in the south, both of which will clear. Calima will be noticeable higher up, and winds will pick up in exposed areas. Warmer conditions expected.

Gran Canaria
Low clouds in the north at dawn, but clear skies over the summits and south. Winds strengthen during the afternoon, and temperatures nudge a little higher.

Lanzarote
Light winds overall. Clouds will stick to the west and north, gradually thinning – sunshine and some calima elsewhere. Temperatures between 18 and 26°C.

Fuerteventura
Clouds cling to the west side and won’t fully disappear, but the rest of the island sees clear skies and calima. Temperatures on the up.

La Palma
Clouds in the north and northeast during the morning, the rest mostly clear with a light calima haze. Temperatures ranging from 17 to 24°C.

La Gomera
Winds pick up in the late afternoon and evening. A few minor low clouds in the north, otherwise mostly clear skies and slightly warmer temperatures.

El Hierro
Humidity continues to drop. Some clouds in the north at dawn, but they’ll shrink. More sunshine towards the south. Temperatures between 14 and 18°C.

La Graciosa
Expect variable cloud cover for much of the day, with thicker patches early and late. Lighter winds and no major temperature changes.
