Tenerife weather: Calima clears as temperatures drop sharply

Radical weather shift for Tenerife on Thursday 28 May

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a stark change in the weather for Tenerife this Thursday, 28 May. Not only will the calima have vanished entirely, but temperatures are also set to drop markedly — a pattern that will be repeated across the rest of the archipelago.

Tenerife forecast: cloud intervals and clearer skies

In Tenerife, there will be cloudy intervals along the northern coastline, with more compact cloud cover in the northeast. However, wide clearings are expected to open up during the central hours of the day. Elsewhere on the island, skies will be partly cloudy or clear.

Temperatures will drop slightly, with a moderate fall in higher areas — especially at mid-altitudes. Thermometers will range between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius.

Wind: strong gusts in low-lying areas and on the peaks

Wind will be moderate from the northeast, with strong intervals in low-lying areas on the eastern and far western slopes, where occasionally very strong gusts cannot be ruled out. Breezes will prevail on the western coasts. On the peaks, the wind will be moderate from the west, veering to the northwest; on the highest peaks it will be strong, with occasionally very strong gusts during the early hours, easing for the rest of the day.

Across the Canary Islands: similar conditions

Looking at the forecast for the archipelago as a whole, skies will be cloudy along the northern coasts of the mountainous islands and the west of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with wide clearings during the central hours of the day. Temperatures will see little change or a slight drop on the coasts, with a moderate decrease inland — especially at mid-altitudes — and on the eastern slopes of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Wind will be moderate from the northeast, with strong intervals in low-lying areas on the southeastern and northwestern slopes of the mountainous islands. Occasionally very strong gusts cannot be ruled out on the central islands. Breezes will prevail on the southwestern coasts of the islands with the most pronounced relief.
