Flights cancelled and diverted at Tenerife Norte as adverse weather hits

Five flights have been cancelled and another ten diverted at Tenerife Norte airport this Friday due to adverse weather conditions, according to sources from Spanish airports and air navigation authority AENA.

Which flights have been affected?

Specifically, the weather situation has led to the cancellation of four flights arriving from El Hierro and one from Fuerteventura. Meanwhile, two flights from Madrid and others originating in Barcelona, Santa Cruz de La Palma, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote have been diverted to Tenerife Sur airport.

In addition, two flights from Gran Canaria have returned to their departure airport, and a third flight from the same island has been diverted to Santa Cruz de La Palma.

Ongoing disruption across recent days

In recent days, strong north-easterly winds blowing across the island, causing heavy cloud cover in the area, have led to similar incidents on several occasions, with more than a dozen flights affected, both domestic and inter-island.
