Urgent Helicopter Rescue for Hiker in Anaphylactic Shock
A 64-year-old man was urgently airlifted by a Canary Islands Government helicopter on Monday after suffering anaphylactic shock from an insect sting on a walking trail in Adeje, Tenerife. The emergency was reported to the Canary Islands 1-1-2 Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (CECOES).
Complex Operation on Remote Path
The alert was received at 1:21 pm concerning a hiker on the track between Iserse and Tijoco who required immediate medical assistance due to the severe allergic reaction. Tenerife Firefighters reached the affected man and worked with the crew of the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) helicopter to evacuate him from the area to the helipad in Adeje.
Patient Stabilised and Hospitalised
Upon landing, personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and a professional from the Adeje health centre attended to the patient, who was experiencing a moderate anaphylactic reaction. After initial stabilisation, he was transferred from the GES helicopter into a medicalised SUC ambulance staffed with Primary Care doctors and taken to the Hospiten Sur University Hospital for further treatment.
