Tenerife and Canary Islands swelter in 34ºC heat and calima

Blazing heat grips the Canary Islands

The scorching heat that has descended on Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands will continue this Tuesday, 26 May, with temperatures more typical of an August day. Calima haze and high temperatures, which could reach 34°C in Tenerife, will define the day. Seeking shade, wearing hats, and staying hydrated will be essential throughout the day.

However, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the eastern islands will bear the brunt of the heat, remaining under a yellow alert for another day. In fact, temperatures could hit 37°C in inland areas and 34°C in mid-altitude zones in the north of Gran Canaria.

San Sebastián de La Gomera

Mostly clear skies with some cloud cover in low-lying northern areas. Light calima haze in mid-altitude and upland zones.
