May bank holiday weather outlook for the Canary Islands
According to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the May bank holiday in the Canary Islands will be characterised by cloudy intervals, with the possibility of some isolated light rain. However, conditions are expected to improve by Sunday, 3 May, though clouds will persist in the north of the mountainous islands. Elsewhere, skies will be clear, aside from some developing cloud intervals in inland southern areas.
Thursday’s forecast
No significant weather phenomena are expected. In the eastern province and Tenerife, there will be cloudy intervals, increasing to overcast in inland areas during the afternoon, with a low probability of light precipitation, mainly in inland areas and on eastern slopes. In the remaining islands, skies will be mostly clear with some developing cloud intervals in inland areas during the central hours of the day. Minimum temperatures will remain largely unchanged, while maximums will see a slight rise, which could be more pronounced in the mid-altitude areas of the northern western province. Winds will generally be light, predominantly from the north-east during the early and late hours, and from a breeze regime during the middle of the day.
Friday’s forecast
No significant weather phenomena are expected. There will be intervals of high cloud, with some low cloud along coastal areas during the early morning, as well as developing cloud intervals in inland areas of the mountainous islands during the central hours, where isolated light rain cannot be ruled out. Skies will be mostly clear or sunny later in the day. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, or with a slight rise in maximums in the eastern province. Winds will be light from the north-east, except in La Palma and El Hierro, where a breeze regime will prevail.
Saturday’s forecast
In the mountainous islands, cloudy skies will dominate on northern slopes, while most other areas will see mostly clear skies, aside from developing cloud intervals in inland southern areas during the central hours, with a low probability of light, scattered, and occasional rain. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will experience cloudy intervals. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged. Winds will be light to moderate from the north-east.
Sunday’s forecast
Cloudy intervals are expected in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. In the north of the mountainous islands, skies will be cloudy with clear breaks during the central hours of the day. Most other areas will see mostly clear or sunny skies, aside from some developing cloud intervals in inland southern areas. Temperatures will remain unchanged or see a slight rise. Winds will be light to moderate from the north-east, with light intervals in the western province during the central hours of the day.
