The state-run ports of the Canary Islands registered a total of 627,684 passengers in June, a 4.5% decrease compared with the same month in 2025, when 657,029 travellers were recorded. The decline was particularly pronounced in cruise traffic at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where passenger numbers fell by 50.7%, while Santa Cruz de La Palma saw a drop of 41.2%.

Cruise traffic suffers sharp falls

Across all Canary Islands ports, cruise traffic also fell in June, with 19,870 passengers compared with 25,105 recorded a year earlier. The biggest decrease occurred in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, while the port of La Luz and Las Palmas was the exception, registering a 33.8% increase in cruise passengers.

The stark contrast to the notable declines in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Santa Cruz de La Palma comes from the port of La Luz and Las Palmas, which saw a rise of 33.8%.

Regular services and container traffic

In terms of regular (non-cruise) traffic, the ports of Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz de Tenerife saw the highest passenger movements. The former handled one in every three travellers using these facilities. The port with the largest decrease in passengers was Puerto del Rosario, with a 9.7% drop, while the port of Arrecife saw an increase of 3.6%.

The number of TEU containers passing through Canary Islands ports in June was 1.8% higher than in the same month of 2025, totalling 181,142 units. The port of La Luz and Las Palmas handles the largest volume of container traffic, accounting for seven out of every ten containers moving through the islands. Compared with the previous year, this represented an increase of 6%. In contrast, vehicle traffic fell by 1.6%, with a total of 215,327 vehicles.
