New wholesale hub opens in Telde

Suko Canarias, the largest Asian food wholesale centre in Gran Canaria, opened its doors on Monday at the Ajimar Industrial Estate in Jinámar, Telde. The new establishment aims to supply both individual customers and the professional hospitality, catering and distribution sectors, strengthening the island’s commercial offering and consolidating Telde as one of the main business and logistics hubs in the Canary Islands.

Festive launch with institutional support

The inauguration brought together institutional representatives, business owners, suppliers and customers from across the archipelago and even the mainland, in an event marked by a festive atmosphere with traditional Asian music and dance performances. Among those attending were the head of Suko Canarias, the Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña; the Councillor for Local Development, Nayra Navarro; and the President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, along with other authorities and business representatives.

A business model for trade and hospitality

More than just a cash-and-carry, Suko Canarias is betting on a business model that combines direct sales to the public with supply to restaurants, hospitality establishments and large retail chains. Its catalogue brings together thousands of Asian food products imported from various countries, alongside a selection of local Canarian produce, integrating regional production into its offering. The wide variety of products and competitive pricing meant that the first purchases were being made from the very moment the doors opened.

Over 80% of staff are local

Another standout aspect of the project is its impact on employment. More than 80% of the workforce is made up of Canarian workers – a figure that reflects the company’s commitment to creating job opportunities in the islands and contributing to the economic development of the municipality. Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, highlighted the significance of a company of this scale setting up in the city. “The opening of Suko Canarias shows that Telde remains an attractive municipality for investment. Our strategic location, close to the Gran Canaria capital and with excellent logistical connections, makes the city a prime enclave for business development,” he said.

Strengthening the local economy

The mayor also stressed that initiatives like this help strengthen the local economic fabric. “Every new company that decides to set up in Telde means more jobs, more economic activity and new opportunities for our residents. We continue to grow as a city and consolidate ourselves as one of the main economic drivers of Gran Canaria,” he added. Councillor for Local Development, Nayra Navarro, highlighted the impact of the new arrival for the municipality. “The arrival of Suko Canarias is excellent news for Telde because it generates employment, diversifies our commercial offering and confirms that we remain an attractive destination for those who want to invest and develop new business projects. From the Town Hall, we will continue working to make it easier for initiatives that boost the local economy and create opportunities for our residents to set up here,” she said.

Telde’s industrial estate grows

With this new addition, the Ajimar Industrial Estate gains another major operator, reinforcing Telde’s role as a strategic point for distribution and commercial activity on the island. The arrival of Suko Canarias is part of the ongoing business growth the municipality has seen in recent years, with new investments generating jobs and energising the local economy.

In addition to its professional sector focus, Suko Canarias is open to the general public with a wide range of Asian and international food products at competitive prices.
