Passenger numbers drop slightly across the archipelago
Airports in the Canary Islands recorded a total of 26,847,826 passengers in the first six months of 2026, representing a 0.7% decrease compared to the same period last year, according to figures released this Tuesday by Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA). Of this total, 26,729,685 were commercial passengers, with 10,647,275 travelling on domestic flights—down 0.2% from the first six months of 2025—and 16,082,410 on international services, a drop of 0.8%, AENA explained.
Gran Canaria leads, La Palma sees strongest growth
Gran Canaria airport recorded the highest number of passengers with 7,917,801 (+0.5%), followed by Tenerife South with 6,845,121 (-2.9%); César Manrique-Lanzarote with 4,312,800 (-1%); Tenerife North-City of La Laguna with 3,514,967 (+2.5%); Fuerteventura with 3,271,894 (-3%); La Palma with 778,446 (+4.1%); El Hierro with 147,768 (+2.6%) and La Gomera with 59,029 (-1.4%). Between January and June, 240,811 aircraft movements were handled and 15,381 tonnes of cargo were transported.
June figures also show a modest decline
AENA also reported that the Canary Islands airports recorded a total of 4,153,154 passengers during June, a 0.9% decrease compared to the same month last year. Of this total, 4,130,092 were commercial passengers, of whom 1,996,594 travelled on domestic flights—an increase of 1.9% compared to June 2025—and 2,133,498 on international services, a drop of 3.4%.
Gran Canaria airport once again topped the list with 1,180,730 passengers, an increase of 0.4% compared to June 2025. It was followed by Tenerife South with 935,707 passengers (-5.7%); César Manrique-Lanzarote with 704,815 (-1.5%); Tenerife North-City of La Laguna with 645,057 (+3.5%); Fuerteventura with 520,539 (-2.1%); La Palma with 128,763 (+10.6%); El Hierro with 26,540 (+2.1%) and La Gomera with 11,003 (+1.5%). In addition, 38,629 aircraft movements were managed and 2,395 tonnes of cargo were transported.
