Tenerife is set to enjoy a year-round direct air link with Montreal from June 2027, following Air Canada’s announcement that it will extend the route to cover the summer season, which had previously been absent from its schedule.
The Canadian carrier will maintain the connection between Tenerife and Montreal throughout all twelve months of the year, complementing the existing winter route between the island and Toronto, according to a statement released this Friday by the Cabildo de Tenerife.
Extended connectivity with North America
The expansion bolsters Tenerife’s direct connectivity with Canada and unlocks new possibilities for onward travel to other destinations across North America and Latin America via Montreal Airport, one of Air Canada’s principal operational hubs.
The Montreal connection will also enable passengers departing from Tenerife to access destinations throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Central America and South America through Air Canada’s connecting network.
New-generation aircraft on the route
The Tenerife-Montreal route will be operated using Air Canada’s new Airbus A321XLR, a next-generation aircraft designed for long-haul flights with enhanced efficiency, allowing connections that previously required wide-body aircraft.
The aircraft seats 182 passengers, comprising 14 in Air Canada’s Signature class and 168 in Economy. Signature class seats recline fully into flatbed position, introducing a long-haul product to this direct link between Tenerife and Canada.
Strategic growth for 2027
The route extension forms part of Air Canada’s planned growth in its international network for summer 2027, which includes new destinations and capacity increases across various markets.
Tenerife’s Tourism Councillor, Dimple Melwani, has stressed that extending the Montreal route to a year-round service represents a significant step forward in positioning Tenerife in Canada and North America, a market in which we have been working for several years and which offers considerable growth potential.
Melwani added that direct connectivity is a fundamental tool for increasing Tenerife’s visibility in long-haul markets and allows us to present Canadian travellers with a far broader destination proposition, based on our offering of nature, culture, gastronomy, wellness and experiences, alongside our potential for business tourism, the audiovisual sector and cruise traffic.
