Extra capacity for the big day
Titsa, the public transport company run by the Cabildo of Tenerife, is reinforcing services to Güímar for the Fiestas del Socorro with 20,000 additional seats on 7 and 8 September, coinciding with the procession of the Virgin. The special operation aims to make it easier for people to reach El Socorro and to discourage attendees from taking the private car.
The company is bringing back a scheme that last year moved 14,865 passengers over the two days. Of those, 4,595 used special line 530, while a further 10,270 travelled on line 120. Titsa’s mobility councillor for the Cabildo of Tenerife, Eulalia García, said the figures showed just how important public transport was in coping with the movement generated by festivities on this scale.
New special line 530
The main new feature is the launch of special line 530, which will connect Güímar bus station with El Socorro on both days of the celebrations. Titsa is also setting up a special stop at El Socorro for lines 530 and 120, while the regular stop 8094 El Socorro will be out of service during the operation.
Line 120, which links Santa Cruz de Tenerife with Güímar via Candelaria and Puertito de Güímar, will also be strengthened. On 7 September, the service between Puertito and Güímar will be extended from 04:30 to 09:00, reaching as far as Calle Rigoberto Díaz Melero. On both 7 and 8 September, buses on this line will run through El Socorro in both directions.
Other route changes
Lines 120 and 121 will keep their usual stops for their normal services. The transport plan for the Fiestas del Socorro is completed by changes and reinforcements to other Titsa services. Line 033 will have two additional journeys on 7 September, while line 121 – which connects Candelaria, El Socorro, Güímar industrial estate, Arafo and Güímar bus station – keeps its usual timetable.
Road closures in Güímar will also force some temporary diversions. Line 032 will change its route on 7 September because of the closure of Avenida Obispo Pérez Cáceres. To enter and leave Güímar bus station, it will run via the TF-28, La Hidalga and the TF-281. Line 035’s 06:15 journey will be diverted from the TF-28 onto the TF-61, TF-1 and TF-281, returning to the same route at 08:15.
The operation is designed to give people easy access to the main events of the Fiestas del Socorro and to absorb the expected surge in passengers during the procession of the Virgin down and back up to her shrine.
