Woman rescued by helicopter after collapsing on Mount Teide
A 67-year-old woman had to be rescued by the helicopter of the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) after suffering altitude sickness in Teide National Park, in La Orotava (Tenerife), according to the 112 Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre.
The incident occurred at 1.10 pm on Sunday. The Red Cross Immediate Emergency Response Team (ERIE) was dispatched to the scene and provided initial medical assistance until the rescue helicopter arrived.
Evacuated to hospital
The GES helicopter then evacuated the woman to the helipad at La Guancha, where a Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) ambulance was waiting. On the ground, medical staff confirmed that the woman was suffering from altitude sickness and had fainted, from which she was recovering. However, she was taken by ambulance to the North Hospital.
Personnel from the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium also assisted in the operation, along with rural environmental guards from the Cabildo of Tenerife, local police officers, and the Civil Guard.
