A noticeable drop in temperatures sweeps across the Canary Islands this Thursday, felt most sharply in the highlands, mid-altitude areas and the interior of Fuerteventura. Cloud will build from the north through the day, with the chance of a few spots of light rain before nightfall.
General conditions
Daytime highs will range between 24°C and 30°C, though local readings could reach around 32°C in the Cuenca de Tejeda and parts of southern Fuerteventura. Skies will turn cloudier overall, especially along northern coasts, with cloud gaining altitude as the day goes on.
A moderate trade wind will blow along the coasts, locally strong in the south-east and north-west of the higher islands. On the summits the wind turns moderate from the north, stronger from the north-west on El Teide. Around the islands, expect slightly choppy conditions in sheltered southern bays and rougher ocean elsewhere, with waves of 1 to 1.5 metres.
Tenerife
Mostly clear skies will give way to cloud along the north during the afternoon, with a chance of drizzle in the far north-east late in the day. Calima will clear and temperatures will fall markedly, with highs of 24°C to 31°C.
Gran Canaria
A notable drop in temperatures, although the Cuenca de Tejeda could still touch 32°C. The familiar “panza de burro” cloud will sit over the north and the capital, thickening towards evening with a few drops possible. Sunshine elsewhere, with calima on the retreat.
Lanzarote
More cloud over the north and west, with softer temperatures and highs of 24°C to 31°C. Plenty of sunshine elsewhere and a moderate north-north-east wind.
Fuerteventura
A marked fall in temperatures, with highs of 24°C to 32°C. Some extra cloud over the north and west, sunshine elsewhere and a moderate north-north-east wind.
La Palma
Low cloud over parts of the north and the eastern district, becoming more widespread late in the day when a little light rain cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will be milder than recent days.
La Gomera
Clear skies over the south and the capital, while low cloud builds over the north and the summit. Milder temperatures and a moderate north-east wind.
El Hierro
Scattered cloud over the north and the capital, thickening through the afternoon and evening. Calima is on its way out, temperatures are falling and a moderate trade wind continues.
La Graciosa
Scattered cloud will dominate, more abundant in the afternoon. A top temperature of 26°C and a north-north-east wind of 20 to 30km/h.
