Major investment in soundproofing near Tenerife South
Aena has approved an investment of more than €7 million to carry out soundproofing works on 802 homes near Tenerife South Airport. The move forms part of the airport’s Noise Insulation Plan, which aims to mitigate the impact of aircraft noise on local residents.
In a statement, the airport operator confirmed that funding for a further 31 homes will be approved once the owners formally give their consent to the proposed insulation works.
Progress on insulation works
Aena has also announced the completion of soundproofing works on a total of 409 homes — 81 in Granadilla de Abona and 328 in San Miguel de Abona. Meanwhile, works are currently underway on another 750 properties.
The company has also added 379 new homes to the Noise Insulation Plan, after they were verified as meeting the established criteria. Acoustic measurements will be carried out at these properties in the coming weeks, a process that has already been completed at 137 other homes where the need for soundproofing has been confirmed.
Eligible homes and how to apply
According to Aena, the current register of homes eligible to apply for acoustic insulation around Tenerife South Airport stands at 2,515 — 1,515 in Granadilla de Abona and 1,000 in San Miguel de Abona. To date, 1,674 applications have been received, meaning that 841 qualifying properties have yet to submit a request.
Aena has reminded residents that the Noise Insulation Plan Management Office remains open to the public, ready to answer queries and assist with the application process.
