Canary Islands weather: Cloudier skies and light rain on Monday

Cloud and light rain expected in mountainous islands

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has announced that Monday will see partly cloudy skies across the Canary Islands, turning overcast in the north and east by the afternoon. Light and scattered rain could fall in the more mountainous islands, while maximum temperatures are set to rise. Winds will generally be light.

In the eastern province, winds will be variable, while the western province will see northwesterly winds. In Tenerife’s central peaks, winds from the southwest could be locally strong, with the possibility of occasional very strong gusts.

Sea conditions and visibility

At sea, Aemet forecasts westerly or northwesterly winds of force 2 to 4 and variable winds of force 1 to 3, with slight to moderate seas. A southwesterly swell is expected in the western islands, with waves of around 1 metre, while northwesterly swells in the eastern islands could reach 2 to 3 metres. Occasional showers and moderate visibility are also expected, according to Efe.
