Five flights diverted from Tenerife Norte due to fog

Five flights diverted from Tenerife Norte as fog reduces visibility

Poor visibility at Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna airport, located at Los Rodeos, forced five flights scheduled to land early this Wednesday morning to be diverted to alternate airports. According to airport operator Aena, all affected services were redirected to Tenerife Sur.

Which flights were affected?

Of the five diverted flights, two were arriving from Lanzarote and one from La Palma. The remaining two had originated in Barcelona and Seville. The disruption therefore impacted both inter-island connections and services from the Spanish mainland.

Why were flights diverted?

The diversions were triggered by a lack of visibility around Los Rodeos, a situation that can make landings at Tenerife Norte particularly challenging. When conditions do not permit normal operations, flights are redirected to another airport for safety reasons. In this instance, the alternative airport was Tenerife Sur.
