Canarian singer Quevedo has become the artist of the moment in just a few years. His tracks are heard around the world, tickets for his concerts sell out in minutes, and he collaborates with international artists – three clear signs of unstoppable success. The young musician receives adoration from his fans wherever he goes, but there is one tribute he may not have expected.
A street artist’s tribute
A street artist has decided to honour him by putting his face on one of the most recognisable buildings in Tenerife. The abandoned Hotel Neptuno in Bajamar has been given a new lease of life in recent weeks, now bearing the image of the cover of Quevedo’s latest album, which shows him alongside a baby goat – an animal that gives the album its name.
With the power of a few spray cans, artist Beto (@betoalaboquilla) has created an image in true Canarian style. The colours of the archipelago’s flag form the base of the design, which features a black-and-white portrait of Quevedo and the baby goat, the eight stars he uses to represent the islands, and a traditional Canarian ‘pintadera’ symbol.
Social media sensation
Beto himself posted the finished work on his social media channels with the message: “What a blessing that so much water separates us.” He also shared a video showing the creation process. This behind-the-scenes clip has proved particularly popular online, racking up more than 29,000 likes and 600 comments on his Instagram account.
