The Civil Guard, carrying out routine checks to intercept fugitives with active international arrest warrants, has tracked down one of the main suspects in the notorious OmegaPro pyramid scheme in Tenerife. The man was staying at a hotel on the island.

$650 million fraud investigated by the FBI

According to the Civil Guard, which confirmed the arrest on Thursday, the investigation into the $650 million fraud that targeted investors is being led by the FBI in the United States. The suspect, who served as a director of the international entity, had been attracting clients through an extensive advertising campaign that involved well-known international footballers. Victims were promised extremely high returns through fake investment packages. The scheme is considered the largest pyramid scam in history.

Arrest and judicial proceedings

After carrying out the necessary checks, officers from the Civil Guard post in Guía de Isora set up an operation that culminated in the arrest. The suspect has been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, who ordered his provisional detention in prison pending his transfer to the requesting court.
