Major Social Housing Development for Gran Canaria’s Capital
The Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, led by Pablo Rodríguez, has provisionally approved the construction of 168 social housing units in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The project, managed by the public company Visocan (Viviendas Sociales e Infraestructuras de Canarias SAU), will also include parking spaces, commercial premises, and storage rooms.
Location and Scale of the Project
The development will be built on an 11,244-square-metre plot in the Casablanca III zone, adjacent to the neighbourhood of La Paterna. The contract has been provisionally awarded to the company Bilba Construcción e Infraestructuras SLU, with a budget of €32,231,892.45.
Part of a Wider Housing Strategy
The regional government stated that this initiative forms part of its strategic plan to expand the public stock of protected housing and facilitate access to decent homes. With this provisional approval, the Government of the Canary Islands reinforces its commitment to creating social housing across the archipelago and takes a further step in responding to the current housing demand in the capital of Gran Canaria.
