El Borgoñón de Sandra: a hidden gem for seaside dining in Tenerife

Summer dining by the sea in Tenerife

As summer arrives, many are seeking out spots in Tenerife where they can enjoy a refreshing dip and a good meal. In Punta del Hidalgo, El Borgoñón de Sandra is a guachinche—a traditional Canarian eatery—set right by the coast, known for its authentic local cooking, affordable prices, and proximity to the area’s natural rock pools.

A firm favourite with foodies

Content creators @guachinchesmodernos recently paid a visit and declared it an essential stop every summer. “Good, pretty, and incredibly well-priced,” they commented. The menu focuses on simple recipes made with traditional ingredients. To start, they opted for ensaladilla (Russian salad) and tuna salpicón to whet the appetite. Other options on offer include fish churros, sardines, and carne fiesta (spiced pork).

One standout dish was the eggs a la inglesa—English-style eggs—which the creators noted the establishment has been serving for years and has become one of its most popular plates. “The first time we tried eggs a la inglesa was here, a few years ago,” they said in their video.

Surprising flavours and local specialities

One of the most surprising dishes was the milanese of Tegueste’s black pig, an unusual option that caught the creators’ attention. “If you come here and don’t find this dish, it’s because they only had it today—they’re not sure if it will stay on the menu,” they explained. To finish their meal, they chose the coffee cake and noted that this seems to be the first year the guachinche has offered homemade desserts, as “they always had ice creams before.”

Practical information and location

The total bill for five people came to €46.90. A key detail to note is that the establishment only accepts cash payments. El Borgoñón de Sandra has become a perfect spot for those looking to enjoy a traditional meal by the sea, located at Camino La Costa, 4, in Punta del Hidalgo. Its setting is one of its greatest strengths, offering the chance to take a swim and sample Canarian cuisine right near the water.

According to the owners, the guachinche is open Tuesday to Sunday at midday, closing on Mondays for staff rest. It will be serving throughout the summer season, making it an unmissable stop for anyone visiting the island.
