Intense heat and dust haze to persist across the archipelago
The Canary Islands are heading into the final stretch of Sunday with their sights set on a Monday that will once again be marked by intense heat, calima (dust haze), and very high temperatures across much of the archipelago. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) maintains its forecast of a dry and stable atmosphere, with few clouds and maximum temperatures once again exceeding 34 degrees in several locations.
Although the wind will be somewhat less intense than in previous days, the warm spell will continue to gain strength, particularly in mid-altitude areas and those facing south and west.
Tenerife: Warm and hazy, with highs of 34°C possible
In Tenerife, Monday will bring largely clear skies with some cloud breaks in the north, while a light calima will persist in mid-altitude and high-altitude areas. Temperatures will rise again, especially maximums, and it is not ruled out that some areas on the southern slopes could locally reach or exceed 34 degrees.
Forecast temperatures for Santa Cruz de Tenerife: low of 21°C and high of 31°C. The wind will be light from the north, although stronger in the far northeast and northwest.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura set to be hottest spots
The highest readings are expected on Lanzarote, where inland areas could reach 37°C, and on Fuerteventura, also with a local possibility of hitting 37°C. On Gran Canaria, temperatures are forecast to exceed 34°C in mid-altitude areas and on peaks facing south and west.
The situation will continue to be defined by clear skies, suspended dust, and a very warm atmosphere in practically all of the islands.
