Work resumes on 27 affordable rental homes in Arenales
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, through its Municipal Urban Development Management Company (GEURSA), has restarted construction work on 27 public affordable rental homes at number 95 on calle León y Castillo, in the Arenales neighbourhood of the Centro district, where the project is now close to 75% complete.
The council said in a statement that work has resumed following a modification to the project that was needed in order to continue with the development, and the works are expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2027.
Homes ranging from one to five bedrooms
The development is being built on a plot of 594 square metres and will consist of a seven-storey building containing 27 homes with between one and five bedrooms, with floor areas ranging from 50 to 132 square metres. Two of the homes will be adapted for people with reduced mobility.
The building will have two commercial units, one of them earmarked for community use, and around twenty storage rooms in the basement. The project also includes a right of way on the lower floor that will allow the public to access the inner plot where the urban allotment next to the CEIP Aguadulce school is located, as well as to see the Swanston chimney, built in the early twentieth century for an oven used to produce flour for the bakers of the Arenales neighbourhood.
€3.3 million investment under the Canary Islands Housing Plan
The scheme represents an investment of 3.3 million euros, financed through the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI) of the Canary Islands Government under the 2020-2025 Canary Islands Housing Plan. The homes are intended for affordable rental for families and young people.
The building incorporates energy efficiency measures, including an envelope designed to limit energy demand and promote thermal comfort, a lighting system with regulation to make the most of natural light, and a solar energy capture and usage installation to cover part of the hot water needs.
