Tourists filmed jumping from dangerous height into Tenerife hotel pool

Two tourists have been filmed carrying out extremely dangerous jumps from a high structure into a hotel pool in southern Tenerife. The incident was captured in broad daylight and posted on TikTok by content creator Jack Neweyy (@Jack Neweyy).

What the video shows

The footage shows two men perched on a terrace or platform several metres above the water. One of them jumps first with his arms outstretched. Seconds later, a lifeguard rushes over in an attempt to stop the second man, but the tourist ignores his warnings and jumps anyway.

The sequence makes clear that the jumps did not take place from a hotel room balcony, but from a higher structure situated above the communal pool area. The platform is protected by a metal railing, suggesting that the tourists had to climb over or bypass the safety barrier before positioning themselves on the edge.

Lifeguard intervention ignored

The most tense moment comes when the lifeguard, wearing a bright yellow T-shirt and red trousers, hurriedly approaches the second man. Despite the worker’s intervention, the tourist ends up jumping into the water. Although the images do not show a balcony jump, the behaviour echoes the high-risk practice known as balconing, given the height, lack of control, and potential for serious injury. A mistake in trajectory, a bad landing, or insufficient water depth can turn a few seconds of recklessness into an emergency with severe consequences.

The video does not clarify whether any of those involved suffered injuries, or whether the hotel took any action against them after the incident.

Online backlash

Jack Neweyy’s post generated considerable criticism from TikTok users, who called for sanctions, removal from the hotel, and even tougher measures against those involved. Repeated comments demanded their immediate expulsion from the hotel and heavy fines for endangering their own safety and complicating the work of security staff.

Other users directed their criticism at the lifeguard’s intervention. Some warned that trying to grab a person at the last moment could also cause a fall from the platform.

Renewed concerns over tourist behaviour in the Canaries

The incident once again highlights the recklessness of some visitors at tourist resorts in the Canary Islands. The danger does not only affect those making the jump. It can also put other swimmers, hotel staff, and medical teams at risk if a jump goes wrong. The spread of the video has reignited debate about the need for increased surveillance, internal sanctions, and swift action against behaviour that turns leisure areas into high-risk environments.
