A man has died after being rescued from a hotel pool in the Esquinzo area of Pájara, Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands’ 1-1-2 Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (Cecoes) has reported.
The incident occurred around 1pm, when the 1-1-2 operations room received an alert that a hotel lifeguard had pulled a man from the water showing signs of drowning and in cardiorespiratory arrest. Cecoes activated the necessary emergency resources to respond.
A coordinating nurse from the Canary Islands Emergency Service in the operations room gave the lifeguard instructions via teleassistance to begin resuscitation and apply a defibrillator, which delivered a shock.
Once on the scene, Canary Islands Emergency Service medical personnel continued performing advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim, but without success. His death was ultimately confirmed.
The Civil Guard is carrying out the corresponding inquiries.
