Best Beaches in Fuerteventura — Kitesurfer’s Paradise and the Longest Beaches in the Canaries

Fuerteventura is the beach island — over 150 km of coastline, the longest sandy beaches in the Canary Islands and some of the best kitesurfing conditions on the planet. From the paradise lagoons of El Cotillo to wild, remote Cofete — every beach here has a completely different character.

Main Beaches of Fuerteventura

  • Corralejo / Grandes Playas — the biggest dunes in the Canaries (26 km²), a natural park, Flag Beach (kitesurfing) and Isla de Lobos. No facilities inside the park — bring everything with you.
  • Playa de Sotavento — 9 km of beach, a lagoon at low tide, host of the PWA World Kitesurfing Championships. A mecca for water sports.
  • Cofete — 12 km of wild beach on the Jandía peninsula. Dirt road, zero infrastructure, dangerous waves. One of the most spectacular beaches in the Canaries.
  • Popcorn Beach — unique “popcorn” sand made of fossilised algae. The only beach of its kind in the world.
  • Playa de Esquinzo — a long golden beach beneath cliffs in the south. Watch out for strong currents!

  • Playa de Jandía — white sand on the southern tip, the Morro Jable hotel zone.
  • Playa de Ajuy — black sand with sea caves (Cuevas de Ajuy). Home to the oldest rock in the Canaries — 70 million years old.
