Tickets for Don Omar’s only European show reselling for hundreds above face value
Tickets to see Don Omar in Tenerife have soared to as much as 900 euros on resale platforms, after all 40,000 tickets for the Cook Music Festival sold out in less than an hour. The Puerto Rican star will perform on Thursday 16 July in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in a show that has generated enormous excitement among his fans. Adding to the appeal, the concert is Don Omar’s only European date, which has sent demand through the roof and made tickets one of the most sought-after items of the musical summer in the Canary Islands.
A reggaeton heavyweight with a global pull
William Omar Landrón, the singer’s real name, arrives in Tenerife at the age of 47 with a career that keeps him among the biggest names in reggaeton and Latin urban music. Over the years, he has amassed three Latin Grammy awards, 20 Billboard awards and 19 Premios Lo Nuestro. This star power has driven such high demand that tickets have appeared on various resale platforms at prices far above the original face value.
Viagogo prices reach nearly 1,000 euros
On Viagogo, prices checked show two Front Stage tickets going for 922 euros, and sofa area tickets for 876 euros. The same platform also lists VIP tickets at around 336 euros and general admission tickets for roughly 189 euros, although prices can change depending on availability and the individual seller’s decision. Viagogo operates as a peer-to-peer resale marketplace and is not legally considered a scam in itself. However, such websites often spark controversy due to inflated prices and complaints from users about additional charges, delivery delays, or potential problems with ticket validity.
TicketSwap offers more affordable options
On TicketSwap, prices for Thursday-only tickets are lower. General admission tickets range between 99.19 and 121.23 euros, while VIP Sofa tickets sit between 200 and 250 euros. On this platform, the final price paid by the buyer does not always match the price set by the seller. TicketSwap adds a 7% service fee and a 3% transaction fee. Additionally, some payment methods, such as PayPal, may include an extra 2% charge.
StubHub shows a wide price range
StubHub also has tickets for Don Omar’s Tenerife concert, with a broad price range. Some general admission tickets are listed at around 160 euros each, while others reach as high as 745 and 850 euros per ticket.
Buyer beware: how to avoid resale pitfalls
With tickets appearing on resale platforms, it is wise to exercise extreme caution. Prices can change rapidly and depend on each seller, so it is advisable to carefully review the terms and conditions of purchase, the fees charged, the guarantee offered by the platform, and the delivery timescales. It is also important to check that the ticket actually grants access to the venue and that there are no restrictions linked to the original buyer’s name, duplicate codes, or issues with transferring ownership. Unregulated resale or tickets sold at vastly inflated prices often raise concerns among consumers, especially for sold-out events. As a result, the general recommendation is to use official channels whenever possible, or platforms that offer clear refund guarantees in case something goes wrong.
A highlight of Tenerife’s musical summer
The concert on Thursday 16 July will be one of the key dates of the musical summer in Tenerife. Don Omar will land in Santa Cruz backed by a career marked by international hits and his role as one of the artists who helped cement reggaeton on a global scale. The combination of a single European date, a sold-out venue, and exceptionally high demand has turned his performance into one of the most coveted concerts of the year in the Canary Islands. That level of anticipation explains why, just days before the event, tickets have reached prices of up to 900 euros on the resale market.
