Woman rescued from mud at Charco de San Ginés

A woman in her 70s had to be rescued on Wednesday morning after becoming trapped in a muddy area at the Charco de San Ginés, in the municipality of Arrecife. The incident prompted a response from firefighters from the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Security and Emergency Consortium, after the Government of the Canary Islands’ Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (Cecoes) 112 alerted them at 10.53am that the woman could not get out on her own.

According to information provided by the emergency services, the woman was standing in the water but had become immobilised by the accumulated mud in the area, which held her trapped up to her knees. After receiving the alert, firefighters quickly made their way to the scene in an intervention vehicle.

Ladder used for safe access

Once at the Charco de San Ginés, the rescue teams set up a ladder to ensure safe access to the victim and to prevent personnel from also becoming trapped on the muddy surface. Thanks to this operation, the teams were able to approach the woman and carry out the necessary manoeuvres to free her from the mud.

The intervention went ahead without any additional incidents being reported during the rescue. Once she was safe, the woman was attended to by health services at the scene, who carried out a medical assessment and provided any necessary care following the incident. Officers from the Arrecife Local Police also took part in the operation, helping to coordinate the response.
