Works begin on Papagayo access road
The Cabildo of Lanzarote and Yaiza Town Council have begun improvement and refurbishment works on the access track leading to the Papagayo beaches and its camping area. The joint project aims to optimise the road surface and enhance safety on one of the island’s busiest rural routes in the south.
According to the Cabildo, the track is used daily by thousands of vehicles to reach one of the island’s key natural and tourist attractions: the Los Ajaches Natural Monument. The works involve the refurbishment of an estimated surface area of 2,500 square metres to address the loss of road surface, potholes and existing deformations along the route.
Surface repair and compaction
Following the initial repairs, the surface will be levelled and compacted to leave the track in optimal condition for vehicle traffic. Any materials used must be compatible with the surrounding area, both from a geological and landscape perspective.
The access road to the Papagayo beaches runs entirely through the Los Ajaches Natural Monument, a highly protected area in Lanzarote valued for its geological and scenic significance.
