Canary Islands takes video game pitch to Japan
A public-private delegation led by Proexca, the Canary Islands’ economic development agency, alongside regional video game associations Acadevi and Arcadev, has travelled to Japan to promote the archipelago’s advantages for the video game industry.
According to a statement from the Government of the Canary Islands, this trade mission has visited Tokyo and Kyoto, where business meetings and prospecting sessions are being held with various organisations and leading studios in the country. The aim is to showcase everything the Canary Islands has to offer to boost this industry.
Tokyo: first stop for investment pitches
Tokyo was the first stop on the mission, where a presentation on the benefits of investing in the Canary Islands was held at the Instituto Cervantes, led by Proexca. The presentation covered talent, quality of life, incentives and success stories in front of around thirty professionals. Eiko Tanaka, President and CEO of Studio 4°C; Hidetaka Yosumi, founder and CEO of Nowake Studio; and Hitoshi Saito, founder of IVI Dreams Studio, explained from their own experience why the Canary Islands is the Atlantic hub for video game development, the Proexca statement noted.
Following the presentation, the delegation visited major Japanese studios including SNK and White Owls, establishing connections and learning points about trends and cutting-edge developments in this growing industry.
Kyoto: Canary Islands at Japan’s largest indie festival
The second stop is Kyoto, where the BitSummit festival begins today. Thanks to Proexca’s sectoral plan for this industry, 11 Canary Islands companies are being accompanied to showcase themselves at Japan’s largest independent video game festival. Under the “Canary Islands Games” brand and a dedicated stand for the Canary Islands delegation, they are participating collectively in this event. The festival combines a day exclusively for business, focused on networking with publishers and press, with days open to the public for testing the innovation of the titles in front of thousands of attendees.
The Canary Islands companies taking part are Moonmana Games, Quantum Box Games, Alessandro Ferrari, Astrava Entertainment, A1M, BACKGRID RESPONSIVE TECHNOLOGIES, Wavetium, Escuelas Artísticas, Foxter Studio, DRAKHAR STUDIO and Proyecto Foxter.
