Football Legend’s Culinary Choice Delights Locals

Iker Casillas has been spotted again in Tenerife. The former captain of Real Madrid and the Spanish national team paid a visit to the guachinche El Talegazo, located in the mid-altitude areas of La Orotava, in a getaway that has not gone unnoticed. According to the establishment itself on its social media channels, the ex-footballer arrived at the venue “on a recommendation,” a brief phrase that has been enough to spark interest among followers, regular customers, and football fans.

A Taste of Authentic Tenerife

The choice of location has also attracted attention. Far from more exclusive restaurants, Casillas opted for one of the most representative formats of Tenerife’s popular gastronomy: the guachinche. The image of Casillas at this establishment in La Orotava has been met with enthusiasm on social media, where many users have highlighted both the approachability of the former goalkeeper and the positive exposure his visit brings to a well-known local spot in the north of Tenerife.

Evoking Historic Football Memories

Casillas’s presence on the island also adds a symbolic nuance for many football fans. Although his current visit has a clear culinary and relaxed tone, the truth is that Tenerife has held a recognisable place in the Madridista imagination for years. Casillas himself recalled on his podcast ‘Bajo los palos’ how, as a young boy, he had the word Tenerife marked in his mind because of what the league titles that Real Madrid let slip away against CD Tenerife at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium in 1992 and 1993 meant for the club.

“I always had Tenerife marked in my head as a place that for Madridistas was the worst thing that could happen,” he said in conversation with commentator Carlos Martínez. Nevertheless, the ex-footballer immediately tempered that sporting memory with praise for the island, which he described as a wonderful city within a beautiful archipelago.
