Anomalous Heat and Calima Persist
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has maintained warnings for an episode of anomalous heat and calima across the Canary Islands this Sunday, with temperatures surpassing 30°C in numerous parts of the archipelago. Tenerife is set to be one of the islands most affected by the thermal rise in mid-altitude areas and low-lying zones of the south and metropolitan surroundings, where conditions will be especially warm. The presence of Saharan dust will continue to reduce visibility and worsen air quality, particularly in the mid-altitude and summit areas of southern Tenerife and other eastern islands. The public is advised to limit strenuous outdoor activity and for vulnerable people to take extra precautions.
Furthermore, winds will blow from the east or south depending on the area. On coasts, winds will be light to moderate, while in mid-altitude and summit areas they could intensify with very strong gusts, especially in the high zones of Tenerife and on exposed slopes across the islands. The two Canarian capitals will see highs of 28°C, with a low of 19°C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 20°C in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
