A Step Back in Time
Located inside a garage in La Matanza de Acentejo, you’ll find Guachinche El Chupete, a place where it seems the years have stood still. The establishment preserves the essence of Tenerife’s traditional guachinches, offering Canarian gastronomy at a good price and a friendly, personal service. Content creators @guachinchesmodernos visited the venue and found “exactly what we were looking for”—a traditional guachinche with a simple yet classic menu. They didn’t hesitate to share the experience with their followers.
Traditional Flavours and Homemade Wine
The menu is short but maintains the traditional dishes of Canarian cuisine. It also features wine from their own harvest, served directly from the barrel. “They don’t serve wine in bottles like this anymore,” they commented. During their visit, the creators opted for Palmero cheese, chickpeas (‘garbanzas’), fried sardines, and a half-portion of goat meat accompanied by potatoes (‘papas’). With this dish, Jonay shared the trick of dipping the potatoes in the goat meat sauce to enhance the flavour.
The House Speciality
The final dish was the house speciality: fried rabbit. “It’s what everyone orders here,” they stated. To finish the meal, the guachinche doesn’t offer desserts; they only have ice cream or eggs with potatoes. “Typical of some guachinches,” they confirmed.
Rustic Charm and Practical Details
The venue has a small, rustic-decorated interior salon and a covered terrace. This simple, economical spot has become a mandatory stop for those seeking traditional Canarian food in an authentic setting. Guachinche El Chupete is found at Camino Nuevo, 77, in La Matanza de Acentejo. It boasts 4.3 stars on Google, reflecting the satisfaction of its visitors, who particularly highlight the fried rabbit.
It opens from Tuesday to Thursday from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, it extends its opening hours to offer lunch service from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm and dinner from 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm. On Sundays, it only offers service from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The establishment is closed on Mondays for staff rest. “It’s a guachinche that only opens until 30th May, if their wine supply lasts that long,” they warn.
