Why solar and wind together could transform the Canary Islands grid
Researchers from the Universities of Murcia and La Laguna have developed a method to balance electricity generation and demand in the Canary Islands using spatiotemporal complementarity of solar and wind power. The study finds that strategic placement of renewable installations could cut grid imbalances by 20 percentage points. Rooftop solar panels could also provide nearly all the solar capacity needed without impacting landscapes.
