Sting lands in the Canary Islands this week with two concerts as part of his Sting 3.0 world tour. The British musician will perform on Thursday 9 July at the Gran Canaria Arena in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and on Friday 10 July at the Anexo Palmetum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. These two dates place the archipelago at the starting point of the artist’s Spanish tour, which will continue across other venues nationwide.
The presence of Sting on the two capital islands makes these concerts one of the biggest musical events of the summer in the Canary Islands. The tour arrives in a more pared-back format than some of the larger international productions. On this occasion, the artist takes to the stage accompanied by guitarist Dominic Miller, a regular collaborator throughout his career, and drummer Chris Maas, formerly of Mumford & Sons. The setup recaptures the raw energy of a live trio performance, with a setlist drawn from the greatest hits of his career.
Gran Canaria and Tenerife kick off the Spanish leg
The first stop will be this Thursday in Gran Canaria, where Sting will perform at the Gran Canaria Arena from 9:00 pm, according to the official event sales page. A day later, on Friday 10 July, it will be Tenerife’s turn, with a concert at the Anexo Palmetum in Santa Cruz. This date also forms part of the Sting 3.0 tour, promoted internationally by The Cherrytree Music Company and Live Nation, with local organisation by Faltos de Ideas and New Event.
The tour arrives in the Canary Islands after touring various international stages, with a production designed to put the focus on voice, bass guitar and live performance. The trio format taps into the energy of Sting’s early years with The Police, while also showcasing the musical maturity of his extensive solo career.
A setlist packed with classics
The planned repertoire includes some of Sting’s most recognisable songs, from both his time with The Police and his solo work. Among the tracks associated with this tour are Roxanne, Englishman in New York, Fields of Gold and Every Breath You Take. The artist also includes less frequently performed songs and material linked to Sting 3.0 Live, his recent live album. The tour has been billed as a more direct and intimate affair, with arrangements crafted for the bass, guitar and drum format.
Sting, winner of 17 Grammy Awards and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is one of the most influential figures in British pop rock. His career spans more than four decades, blending rock, jazz, reggae, pop and singer-songwriter styles.
Practical advice for concertgoers
Organisers recommend that those attending the concerts check the door opening times, venue access points and entry conditions in advance. They also advise using only official channels for any ticket-related enquiries and avoiding unauthorised resale. For the Tenerife concert, the area around the Anexo Palmetum typically sees heavy footfall at large-scale events, so it is wise to plan travel in advance.
